In the Beginning...
I suppose it's quite appropriate that my first blog posting comes just days before our 8 year wedding anniversary. Our story had to start somewhere, right?
I decided to add a few random pictures from the past 8 years that hold a lot of good memories.
Like this one, for starters, is us at the Bahamas in 2009. We love the beaches at the Bahama islands!
And here is one at Schweitzer Mountain ski resort in my hometown in Idaho in 2010. This was Moises first ever attempt at skiing, and considering the fact he grew up in Texas where it rarely snows, he did amazing!
Now on with the story... Moises and I met while in medic training in Fort Sam Houston, TX in 2002. We were both serving in the Army at the time, and were both signed up to go through the Army's Practical Nurse Course. We weren't exactly friends in the beginning, more like acquaintances. In fact, he told me many years later that he initially thought I was stuck up. Haha! He obviously just needed time to get to know me. I remember standing by him in line at the chow hall and making him smile because I loved seeing his perfect teeth behind his sheepish grin. I was always so proud of myself for being able to pronounce his name (you know, two L's together in Spanish sound like a Y... Ga-Ye-gos). So, I said his name every time I saw him, and that always produced a smile. For months, that was about the extent of our relationship. Little did I know, that someday his name would actually become mine! It wasn't until we were actually in the nursing course that we became friends. We eventually started dating, and 6 months later, standing across the street from the Alamo, he asked me to marry him. A mere 3 weeks after that we were married on August 28th, 2003.
This is us, two weeks into our marriage at our LPN graduation ceremony.
Shortly after, Moises received orders to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, thus we began our life as a married couple just outside of Washington, DC. Here we are at Arlington National Cemetery in 2004. I'm so thankful to have been give the opportunity to visit and explore our nation's capital.
Here is a picture of us on the Metro in DC. We rode FREE thanks to the Army! On this day we were returning home after getting a tour INSIDE the White House! What an awesome thing to see! We have to pictures to prove it, however, since they don't allow you take any phones or cameras in with you.
In 2005, my Army Reserve unit mobilized me and sent me to Madigan Army Medical Center at Fort Lewis, WA. We moved from one Washington to the other, nearly 2800 miles across country, and this is where we have been ever since. Here's a view of Mt Rainer from the front door of the hospital (this is where we both currently work as RN's).
For our anniversary in 2006, Moises took me to a Mariners Game. Since it was a special occasion, he got us some really good seats, right on the field next to first base. I can't remember if the Mariners won that game or not, but I'm going to guess they didn't... =)
In eight years of marriage, we've made a lot of good memories and experienced so many things. It would probably take me another 8 years if I attempted to blog about everything. We're not perfect, and we are far from being the perfect couple, but through the help and grace of God I know we will live an abundant, joyful life together. When I think of what our future might hold, it makes me feel like we're just getting started on our grand expedition of life. We often joke that we will stay married for at least 50 years, and then after that we'll see what happens. Haha!
The title our blog comes from the song we played at our wedding by The Turtles, So Happy Together. The words are still so fitting for us; "I can't see me lovin' nobody but you, for all my life. When you're with me, baby, the skies will be blue for all my life... The only one for me is you, and you for me, So Happy Together!"
I couldn't have asked God for a better man to spend my forever with. Eight years down, eternity more to go!
